WP2 Part 2: Comment

WP2 Part 2: Comments 1) Reply to commenter: I completely agree with how animals being plucked from their natural environment can be detrimental to their species’ survival. However, my main concern over this issue is how certain smuggled animals can pose a larger threat to the area they are introduced to rather than where they were exported from. The United States is no stranger to invasive species destroying ecosystems by this time, with Burmese pythons and Argentinian tegus in Florida competing with the native apex predators, goldfish competing for natural resources statewide, and cane toads that not only threaten almost every species of predator but also endanger human and house pet livelihoods. Even animals that are not able to compete with the local wildlife, they can carry foreign fungi, viruses and pathogens and introduce them to areas where the susceptible animals carry no genetic resistances. There is also the chance where an alien species is a close enough relative ...

WP2 Part 2: Part 1 and 2

Good Comments 1.        Woe is me. This article is an embarrassment of excuses. I am 67 years old and grew up living in a trailer in upstate New York. Grew up at a time when there was no internet. I received very little advice from anyone (my parents were immigrants, spoke weak English and never went to college). My idea of preparing for the SAT was buying a copy of Barron's SAT preparation book, "how to prepare for the SAT" for about $8. In addition to practice SAT questions, it gave general guidance about colleges. Anyone who claims to be clueless about college admissions in a world that not only has libraries but also the Internet has been playing too many video games on their smart phone. I ended up with a 784 in math and 800 in physics. Graduated, and have paid millions of dollars in income taxes in my life time. Please, in this day and age, information is cheap and virtually infinite. Pity is finite and doled out only when deserved. Oh, and by the way, my...

Part 1: I have loved games since I was introduced to them by my older brother at a young age. I have made many good memories with my friends and family through gaming during my childhood. However, in the more recent years, I have only been a spectator to watch how video games, players, and the gaming industry progressed over time. Starting around the early 2010s I’ve been noticing a slight shift in the video game environment, most evidently is the predatory business models companies are inserting into their games, which very much so looks and acts like a gambling system. This is against everything I experienced and know from gaming in my childhood and I am against it. Part 2: The most effective strategy to draw an audience is to include the influence of children. Inclusion of parents into this topic can have major effects, as they have more control over their financing than any children would. Information of how to combat the issue in the letter can also help engage the reade...

Part 2, “Deconstructing Genres.” . After you make your selections, describe this genre using the language of our course.  Think about our “genre question”—what makes this thing this thing ?—and describe the conventions of this genre based on your 3 examples.  What patterns have you detected across the three examples, and which ones seem the most consequential?   A straight forward title is immediately the most noticeable convention among the 3 examples. The titles lack any sort of adjectives and only focuses on the letter writer’s opinion about the matter so it may catch a reader’s attention and let them know prior what’s the whole point about. The writer’s occupation is also usually included at end of the letter, this may help verify the level of authenticity and seriousness readers should be taking the letter, as a position such as a teacher or a community relations director (from the examples) may hold more credibility than an unemployed person with a strong opinio...

Hello there. I’m Brian and I’m from Hong Kong. I’m somewhat of an animal lover, namely more so towards less cuddly animals like reptiles, fish and insects. So, at home I keep a small collection of pets at home, such as a python, three turtles, a newt (2012-2018 RIP) and a planted desk aquarium with a really feisty fish. This all sort of stemmed off from the fact that I was automatically drawn towards dinosaurs before I even started forming words as a baby and it has been an ongoing interest since. I’ve also always been an avid artist throughout my life, although I only ever specialized in drawing things such as monsters and dinosaurs. However, I haven’t really refined this part of my hobby since I still haven’t gotten good anywhere beyond pen and pencil drawings.             I’m also particularly keen on water related activities. I’ve swam competitively in High School for 3 years, specia...
